TMNT Slash by plasticplayhouse TMNT Slash by plasticplayhouse
IDW's version of Slash is imo the best version of the character. It definitely has a grown-up feel to it compared to the original toon and toy. It's a cross between Slash and Tokka which is a move that just feels right. My favorite part of IDW's version is how he gets his mask and razor claw...very crafty IDW, very crafty. If you don't already know how he gets his mask and razor claw, go out and read the City Fall arch. It's well worth the read :D

I modeled Slash after the style of :iconsantolouco: He's about 8 inches tall and is pretty heafty too.

Wow! (I'm late to the party on this one!) how did you sculpt the shell?

Thanks for checking out my work! I sculpted the shell in an epoxy clay, giving it a basic shape then adding the cones and pending them into the rest of the clay shell. Once the clay began to set I started sculpting in the details with a needle.

Tight looking Slash you've posted here dude. He looks great as a giant snapping turtle. Kudos go to you.

WoW! What did you make this from? IS this 100% from scratch? And have you ever thought of applying to Playmates?

I used a hulk figure as the base. Selection of base fodder is imo the key to making good custom. Thanks, but I still have a lot to learn before I can work a pro gig like that.

this is pretty cool, do you do all the injection molding and tooling yourself?

Itsnot injection moulding, I took a hulk figure, shaved down the muscles, and resculpted over it with an epoxy clay. Once the clay hardened, I painted it.

Thanks!

Did you see him in the new cartoon? I thought that design was pretty great, not to mention Corey Feldman voicing him was a great decision (we need more Goonies in the show).

This looks fantastic. I'm not sure if IDW is my favorite design of the character, but there's no denying it's a good one and you pulled it off beautifully.

I did.  I like the new toon's version as well.  kind of sad to see the loss of Raph's little confidant Spike though.  I like the incorporation of Feldman into this TMNT verse also.  not just because he voiced Donnie in the original movie, but I too am a huge Goonies fan :D

Thanks for the compliment!

I was sad about that as well, but I like the way they incorporate classic characters in new organic ways. Also, I'd love to see them include more of the Goonies cast for guest spots. I don't know if they could get Josh Brolin, but the rest should be available. :P

Of course, Slash'snew origin doesn't sadden me as much as Mutagen Man's but that's for different reasons.

Yeah, the Mutagen Man story is kind of sad and weird.  I'm not really liking it so much.

The last episode with him was odd. But I won't lie, I cried a little when he turned. I really liked Timothy. He could be annoying, but that was part of his charm.

Same here. I can't wait until the show comes back next month.

Also, I hope the rumors of a Flaming Carrot appearance come to fruition. I'd rather him have his own show (not for kids), but I'll take what I can get.

Come to think of it, that would be an awesome figure for you to do down the line. I'm still trying to figure out a way to make a Mighty Mugg of him myself. :P

Flaming carrot?! That would be really interesting. Only thing is he belongs to someone else, that means nick would have to pay for the character's use...not sure if I see that happening. I hope it does!

Dude this is so very cool! I love the new design. He's an alligator snapping turtle so his large size is perfect for him and is accurate compared to the size of the rest of the turtles. Great job as usual. Can we see the shell part of this custom? Besides his size its his most defining feature. Mayhaps we will see Bebop and Rocksteady soon? or Koya? or Alopex? Sorry getting too excited. I always look forward to see what new Turtles custom you do.

Thanks for the kind words :) I'll post more pics tonight.

Dude, I would love to make a Koyo & Alopex in Ross' style. I've been keeping an eye out for suitable parts, but his style is so unique that it ain't easy to find decent fodder...especially a good pair of wings that I could work with. I'm hoping to still make a bebop & rocksteady, but its the same deal in regards to suitable parts :( I'll keep searching ;)

Gotta say I don't care for Slash's new design. He's too big and clunky looking. I prefer Slash to look like one of the Turtles, just a bit more demented.
Regardless, this is a fantastic custom! Looks just like the comics, professional level stuff.

I reeeeeally don't care for IDW's design of Slash, but the character is pretty great otherwise. Preferences aside, you've done an amazing job, as always. This one is particularly impressive given his presumed size and all of the scaly details. The mask is crazy nice too.
